History
Tanzanite is a relatively new gemstone. It was first discovered in 1967 in Tanzania close to Mount Kilimanjaro by Masai tribesman Ali Juuyawatu. Since then tanzanite has become one of the most prized gemstones today. The name tanzanite was coined by jewellery company Tiffany & Co, naming it after the originating country Tanzania.
Sources
To this present day Tanzanite can only be found in the Mererani Hills, Tanzania.
Quality
Top quality tanzanite could rival blue sapphires in its colour and saturation. Violetish blue tanzanites are much sought after by consumers because of the rarity and beauty of this gemstone.
